Introducing the creative writing of Jack Gibson

Issues

A one-act play, written by Jack Gibson and Nick Jones

John Noble is a talented, if not thoroughly respected, marriage counsellor. Notorious for

his no-nonsense approach to marital breakdowns, he spends his day rescuing couples

from the abyss, guiding them skilfully towards the happy marriage they always wanted.

His bosses may not approve of his methods, but he's a man who gets results, a self-

proclaimed, 'Modern day Cupid'.

But behind the successes and the bravado lies a lost man. These days it seems he only

speaks to his wife in order to argue, while his fatherly duties can only be described as

lack-lustre at best. He may be God's gift to counselling, but John Noble is also an

alcoholic.

No day is complete without a few bottles of Australia's finest within easy reach. His

long-suffering assistant, Susan, sees it every day. Should she say something? Or just write

off his daily rants as the by-products of a genius mind?

Soon enough, Noble is given a sharp reality check, both at work and at home. Is he too

far gone? Or can he pull himself out of the alcohol-soaked rut he's got himself into, in

time to rescue his own personal and professional life?

The premiere performance of Issues took place as part of Write-On's Naked Stage

Issues will also be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008. Watch this
